Text Box:
continued……...There are many teachers, who can teach technique, and Joyce would be one of the thousands who can, but I would say the number of teachers who can give their students the gift of self-confidence is far fewer. Recently, another student told me how much they love watching me dance in class and how they often make sure they stand behind me so they can follow me. Before I started taking Joyce’s class I thought everyone was watching me in class, waiting to judge me- now I don’t even notice when people are watching me. Joyce’s classes are so warm and inviting that everyone feels at home, and when you feel that way you no longer need to “play it safe”- through my mistakes and falls I have become a better dancer. I’ve learned how to truly feel the music and dance beyond my own insecurities
Text Box: Of course having confidence within the classroom is wonderful, but the gifts that Joyce gives her students extend further. I am much more confident at auditions- and when I feel my confidence lacking I just pretend I’m in Joyce’s class. This has allowed me to book jobs that I never could have dreamed of booking before working with Joyce. When I auditioned to dance in the Hannah Montana movie the casting directors told me that they hired me because they liked my “fearless” attitude . . . if only they knew that just a little over a year ago I wouldn’t even dance in the front line in class!
As if I wasn’t lucky enough to have Joyce as a teacher, I also had the privilege of working with her as a choreographer; dancing in her piece Mindfield at the Steps Faculty Concert and at The Staller Center. After doing the tour of The Diary of Anne Frank, I didn’t know if I would ever have the opportunity to fully immerse myself into such a truthful character again. I was thrilled to discover that Joyce’s choreography demands that both the dancers and the audience abandon themselves in order to make the journey through the piece. Her choreography is not only aesthetically pleasing but also allows the audience to become emotionally invested in the characters and thus in the story. It is rare to find such a gifted and talented choreographer.

I am a member of Left Sandal Dance Company and fortunately, I have had the privilege of being taught a few classes by Joyce King throughout my years of dance. Joyce King's attention to detail, professionalism and enthusiasm are in every single aspect of her classes. Not only did she teach us dance steps, she taught us how to express ourselves by understanding the music and interpreting the music through our movements. Her classes were both amazing and educational. She is an outstanding dance instructor and I look forward to taking many more classes as years go by.

Joyce welcomed me into her class and her teaching enabled me to develop and advance my technique, she gave me

clean turns, extensions,  more. Her choreographic styles are unique and varied and promote a range of abilities. Improved technique and abilities, however, are only the mechanics of the experience. Class is so much more! Joyce shares her warmth, enthusiasm, passion, and positive energy, and she encourages her students to bring the same out of themselves. In all ways it has been joyful and fulfilling to dance with Joyce
